The following page shows the career & education requirements, salary and job outlook for Healthcare Analyst around the country.
What We Do
A healthcare analyst is responsible for compiling and studying available medical data. They maintain the data that they collect for the healthcare organization that they work for, analyzing it in order to allow those reading the data to get an insight on how healthcare delivery could be improved and be made more cost efficient. They also validate the data that is available, in order to ensure consistency. They work mainly with data collection programs, rather than being involved in any direct care.
Work Environment
A healthcare analyst can be found in a variety of healthcare settings. They are often found working in private, state, and local hospitals in order to try to lower costs while simultaneously improving quality of care. They can also be employed by insurance companies. Finally, they can be found within federal, state, and local government, particularly in departments of health and human services.
How to Become a Healthcare Analyst
Healthcare analysts are expected to have at least a bachelor’s degree. However, with the improvement in the standard of education in the field of healthcare, many organizations now require a master’s degree. The master in business administration (MBA) with a healthcare analytics concentration is particularly desirable.
Training & Certification Requirements
There is no legal requirement for a healthcare analyst to be certified to be able to work. However, those who choose to become a Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) have the best job opportunities. This also demonstrates that they are committed to their own professional development.
